November 12, 2024 — ASYGN, a leader in RFID circuit design, and its partner Trilliott, are pleased to announce the release of a family of world-leading RFID sensor tags. These tags provide real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity, weight, movement, luminosity, and more. These tags offer a key advantage: they never need batteries, enabling continuous and maintenance-free operation. Lionel Geynet, RFID Business Unit Manager at ASYGN, adds: "By implementing temperature sensing tags in the healthcare cold chain, we've seen significant reductions in pharmaceutical waste and risks associated with expired or spoiled medications."
RFID Journal, the world’s leading source of RFID news and information, recently released a report on sensor tags and their use in healthcare entitled "Critical Role of RFID in America’s Supply Chain". Since the early 2000s, hospitals have been using RFID technology: in line with this growing trend, ASYGN's industry-first sensor tags are a natural next step, offering a significant advancement in inventory tracking. Beyond temperature sensing tags in the cold chain, weight-sensing strain tags have proven valuable in tracking on-hand inventory for hospitals, warehouses, storerooms, and beyond. In hospitals, strain tags are affixed to a box of consumables like surgical gloves: the tags are scanned over time to record weight changes, thus determining quantities for precise reorder points with reduced overstocks and understocks.
In addition, these weight-sensing tags prove valuable in warehouse applications. Warehouses commonly keep an inventory of piece-parts, small components like nuts and bolts to build out products. These parts need to be counted to ensure sufficient inventory, but counting by hand is nearly impossible and impractical. "RFID weight scales solve this problem by recording weight changes over time to determine the quantity of piece parts remaining," explains Booth Kalmbach, CEO at Trilliott. Warehouse operators can be confident in fulfilling their orders by tracking piece-part quantities.
Of course, none of this tracking can be performed and analyzed without the use of RFID-enabled software. Trilliott fills this software gap with its novel Digital Supply Chain™ and Digital Warehouse™ apps. These are two components of Trilliott's SmartSITE SaaS platform that automates all major RFID use cases to provide real-time visibility and analytics for asset tracking in healthcare and beyond.
